COMPANY PROFILE

Applied Laboratory Services, LLC, (ALS) is a licensed asbestos analytical laboratory located in the Southeastern Virginia area.  ALS has been providing high quality industrial hygiene services to clients in industry, government and the private sector at competitive rates since its incorporation in September 1995.  ALS give you access to highly qualified professionals including Certified Industrial Hygienists, Industrial Hygiene Technicians, Engineers, Chemists, and others eager to serve your needs.  Our staff of trained professionals are active in professional organizations, accredited and licensed for PLM bulk asbestos fiber analysis EPA-600/M4-82-020: Interim Method for the Determination of Asbestos in Bulk Insulation Samples, PCM asbestos fibers in air analysis National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) 582 Method, asbestos inspections, lead inspections/risk assessment, asbestos and lead abatement project monitoring, asbestos management plans and a full range of industrial hygiene sampling and analysis including indoor air quality inspections and sampling.

Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) is our objective.  Our QA/QC program is designed to ensure the scientific reliability of our laboratory data.  Our QA/QC Manager implements and maintains the Quality Assurance Program.  System audits and performance audits include the introduction of QC samples and blind samples, participation in performance evaluation testing conducted by the United States Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP), and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Proficiency Analytical Testing (PAT) rounds administered by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and exchanges with other external laboratories in round robin testing.  A minimum of 10% of industrial hygiene sample analysis is reanalyzed for QC purposes.  A Quality Control Manual is available for both in-house and field analysis.  Copies of certifications and accreditations are available upon request as well as current results of NVLAP/NIOSH PAT rounds.

Our policy includes Immediate, 24 hour, and 3-5 day turn around times for most asbestos and lead samples.  Average turn around on other industrials hygiene samples is five business days with priority and weekend analysis is available in advance upon request.  Priority analysis ensures that results are transmitted via facsimile the same day with typed hard copies mailed within 48 hours of analysis and incurs an additional charge.  Turn around time on referred tests is seven to ten business days.

We assist our clients in conforming to professional laboratory standards by providing chain-of-custody forms at no charge and by advising clients as to the appropriate QA/QC practices.  For example, we recommend that the chain-of-custody forms should be legible and complete.  It is recommended that separate forms be used for each sample type (e.g., metals, lead, dusts, and asbestos) submitted.  Proper QA/QC indicates that a minimum of one blank for each type of industrial hygiene air sampling analysis should be included in a given batch of samples.  Blanks act as a control measure for accounting for contamination that can occur during handling, storage or shipment of samples.  Field blanks should be opened and handled in the same manner as a sample, except no air should be drawn.  Since blanks are analyzed as any other sample in the laboratory they are priced the same as the analysis requested.  In keeping with industry standards, ALS will divide bulk samples into layers when necessary to satisfy regulatory requirements and there is also a separate charge for each analysis/layer.  Bulk samples that cannot be divided into layers will be analyzed as a composite sample. On request, we will develop a detailed QA/QC program to satisfy the unique needs of each specific project.

ALS is bound by moral conviction and professional integrity, striving towards one goal:  to continually provide the highest quality service to our clients until they are thoroughly and completely satisfied.  Whether you require a single member for a short period of time or the combined efforts of an interdisciplinary team for a larger effort, ALS is capable of providing timely, efficient and effective response.
